Students will be able to identify common features of each type of story as well as give an example of each. WritingRealistic Fiction
In this unit, students will review the four main elements of a story: characters, setting, problem, and solution. Students will listen to a variety of realistic fiction stories and then create their own. Students will learn how to plan out a basic plot that contains a realistic problem and solution for his/her character. Students will recognize that problems are usually solved in steps—not immediately. In this unit, students will learn how to organize information in a way that makes sense and is easy to compare. Students will learn how to create and interpret graphs. Students will work with tally charts, pictographs, and line plots. Given information in one type of graph, students will be able to transfer and organize the data into a different kind of graph. ScienceEarth's Land and Water
In this unit, students will identify where water is found on earth and what form it is in, name different bodies of water and landforms, explore landforms and create models of them, use maps to locate and find patterns among landforms and bodies of water, identify slow (weathering and erosion) and rapid earth changes, explain how humans can affect and control some earth changes, and design solutions to help solve some earth changes.
